Women's Commitee

The FHCQ’s women’s committee. was first put in place following a resolution approved at the 2016 annual general meeting. Its most important mandate is to reach out to women living in housing cooperatives, in order to learn about their needs and find out how the Federation can best respond to those needs.

The women’s committee is a separate initiative from the Women’s Presence, Women’s Power project, but has contributed to the project’s success, particularly by recruiting participants.

Many women on the committee also participated in the Les Voisines working group, which reviewed the members’ contracts as well as many of the regulations and policies that are proposed to cooperatives, in order to ensure that elements which reflect women’s needs and realities were added where needed.

The committee was also in charge of drafting the Declaration of Principles to Eliminate and Prevent Violence Against Women in Housing Cooperatives, which was adopted at the FHCQ’s Annual General Meeting in 2018.
